Toronto Raptors (17-31) vs. New Orleans Pelicans (28-21) 

The 2023-24 NBA season goes on Monday, February 5, with the Toronto Raptors facing off against the New Orleans Pelicans in the interconference showdown at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, with the tip-off at 8:00 PM ET.  

Toronto meets New Orleans for the first time this term, and the Pelicans open as 9.5-point home favorites with a total of 235.5 points. Last season, they split a two-game series, with each team emerging victorious on the home court.

Sunday’s games have been excluded from this preview, and the 17-31 Toronto Raptors visited the Oklahoma City Thunder as 9-point underdogs. The Raptors have only won one of their previous seven contests. They beat the Chicago Bulls 118-107 on the road this past Tuesday. 

Last Friday, the Raptors suffered a heavy 135-106 defeat at the Houston Rockets, who made 59.1% of their field goals. Toronto shot 44.0% from the field (11-for-33 from deep) while handing out just 17 assists. Scottie Barnes led the way for the Raptors with 28 points and seven rebounds, and Immanuel Quickly added 25 points and six assists. 

The Raptors are 12th in the Eastern Conference, trailing the No. 10 seed by 4.5 games. They score 114.8 points per 100 possessions (19th in the NBA) while surrendering 117.5 points in return (20th). The Raptors listed RJ Barrett (knee) as questionable for Sunday’s clash against the Thunder. Barrett, who’s tallying 21.0 points per game in the Raptors uniform, has missed three straight games due to a knee injury.
