The Minnesota Golden Gophers are on the road as they travel to take on the Penn State Nittany Lions Saturday evening. Minnesota fell 61-59 at home to #13 Wisconsin in their previous game Tuesday night, though they did cover the line as a 2.5-point underdog. Penn State was dropped 79-67 on the road by Ohio State in their previous contest last Saturday, failing to cover the line as a 9.5-point underdog. In the all-time series between the programs, the Golden Gophers own a 38-19 advantage but the Nittany Lions have won the last three matchups. That includes a 76-69 road win in the most recent matchup on February 18, 2023.

Minnesota battled to the end but came up just short at home against #13 Wisconsin in their previous game Tuesday night. The Golden Gophers fell to 12-7 overall and stood tied for ninth in the Big Ten with a 3-5 mark in conference play this season. Against Wisconsin, Minnesota gave the ranked Badgers all they wanted and then some only to fall short. The Golden Gophers trailed by as many as 15 with under five minutes to play in the first half before trimming the deficit to 10 at intermission. Minnesota rallied to lead 46-45 with 11:57 to play, gave up a 9-0 run to trail 54-46 and then reeled off an 11-1 run of their own to take a 57-55 lead with 2:37 remaining. The Golden Gophers struggled from there, scoring just two more points while Wisconsin scored six to pull out the win. Minnesota shot 37.9% from the field, including 10 of 24 from beyond the arc, but hurt themselves by misfiring on eight of their 13 free throw attempts in the game. Elij ah Hawkins led the Golden Gophers with 16 points, five rebounds and nine assists in the loss.

For the year, Minnesota is 135th in the nation in scoring offense as they put up an average of 76.2 points per game. Minnesota shoots 47.5% from the field as a team on the year. The Golden Gophers drain an average of 7.9 three-pointers a night while shooting 34.2% from beyond the arc as a team.
