Marshall vs. Bowling Green Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 9-17-2022

The Marshall Thundering Herd (2-0, 2-0 ATS, 0-2 O/U) collide with the Bowling Green Falcons (0-2, 0-2 ATS, 2-0 O/U) in an inter-conference bout on Saturday evening. The Thundering Herd recorded a stunning win at Notre Dame last week. The Falcons are winless after a loss against Eastern Kentucky in their week two action. This is the first meeting between these foes since 2010.

The Marshall Thundering Herd are targeting a third consecutive win to begin the season. They were mammoth 40-point favorites in a 55-3 win against Norfolk in the home opener and made headlines with a stunning 26-21 road win at #8 Notre Dame last week. The Herd were 20-point dogs in the victory. Marshall was projected to finish 4th in the Sun Belt East in the preseason poll.

Henry Colombi has been stellar in his two performances. The senior QB spent the last few seasons with Texas Tech and has connected on 85% of his passes for 350 yards and two touchdowns against one pick in his two performances. He should feast on a poor BG pass defense.

The Herd are playing without star running back Rasheen Ali. He eclipsed 1300 yards in 2021 and is currently on a leave of absence. Khalan Laborn was dominant against Notre Dame, accumulating 163 rushing yards and has accrued 265 on the year. Corey Gammage led Marshall in receiving in 2021 and the junior WR only has 42 yards in the first two games. The Marshall offense was among the best in their conference last year and the same should apply in their first year in the Sun Belt.

The Thundering Herd defense was able to frustrate the Fighting Irish last week and made three big interceptions. They have been effective against the pass and run, landing 20th in pass defense and 25th in rush. Marshall has collected 81 points in two games, marking them 35th. The defense has allowed only 24 points, good for 24th in the FBS.
