New Mexico State vs. Wisconsin Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 9-17-2022

The winless New Mexico State Aggies (0-3) take to the road and travel to Madison, WI to take on perennial Big 10 power Wisconsin (1-1) on Saturday afternoon. The Aggies, an FBS independent school, are playing the final of three straight road games. Wisconsin should be licking their chops as they welcome NMSU to Camp Randall Stadium after being upset at home by Washington State last Saturday. The Badgers are playing the last of three-straight home games before taking on Ohio State in Columbus, OH next week. The opening kick for Saturday's matchup with the Aggies is set for 2:30pm EST.

With an 0-3 record, the Aggies are heading to an extremely hostile environment in Madison, WI in the hopes of turning their season around.  Last Saturday night, New Mexico State came up just short against their long time rival, UTEP, in a 20-13 loss. The Aggies were turned away on the game's final play with a chance to tie the game. It was the closest of New Mexico State's three losses thus far and a far cry from the 38-0 loss they suffered at Minnesota the week prior.

“I am proud of our football team, there is no question about that,” said NM State head coach Jerry Kill. “We played hard. There were spurts in the game where we had opportunities. There was probably left 13 to 17 points out there but what I think what we want to be and who we want to be showed up more in the second half than it has since we really been here with me in this short time.”

Aggi es quarterback Diego Pavia went just 7-0f-20 for 100 yards on the night and was sacked one time. He rushed the ball 15 times for 78 yards and the Aggies only two touchdowns. The Aggies outgained UTEP with 298 total yards compared with 274 total yards for the Miners. He engineered an offense that was 4-of-14 on third own conversions and 2-of-2 on 4th down.

Defensively, New Mexico State is allowing 27 points per game and allowing 338 yards of total offense per game. That is nearly 100 yards more per game than the Aggies are averaging in total offense. The Aggies offense has struggled as well with just eight points per game thus far. They are also being pummeled in the turnover battle, committing nine turnovers thus far while forcing just three turnovers themselves. The Aggies have thrown six interceptions already while the defense has yet to grab a pick. Time of possession also shifts heavily in favor of the opposition as New Mexico State is averaging just over 25 minutes per game compared with 34 minutes per game for the opposition.
