A pair of former rivals from the old Black and Blue Division that was known as the NFC Central now meet with a spot in the NFC Championship Game at stake in the Motor City. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are on the road as they travel to face the Detroit Lions Sunday afternoon. Tampa Bay advanced as they drubbed Philadelphia 32-9 at home in the wild-card round Monday night, winning outright as a three-point underdog. Detroit won their first playoff game in more than three decades as they edged the Rams 24-23 at home last Sunday night, though they failed to cover the line as a three-point favorite. In the all-time regular season series between the teams, the Lions own a 32-28 advantage, including a 20-6 road win earlier this season on October 15, 2023 in the most recent matchup. The Buccaneers won the lone previous playoff tilt, prevailing 20-10 at home in the wild card round on December 28, 1997.

Tampa Bay closed the regular season with five wins in their last six games and then walloped a fast-fading Eagles squad at home in the wild-card round Monday night. The Buccaneers now look to keep that momentum going as they head on the road for this contest. Against Philadelphia, Tampa Bay scored on their opening drive and never trailed after that. The Buccaneers were up 10-0 after one quarter, 16-9 at the half and broke the game open with a 56-yard touchdown pass to Trey Palmer late in the third quarter to give them a 25-9 advantage. Tampa Bay rolled up a 426-276 advantage in total offense, picked up 23 first downs while allowing 13 and controlled the clock by a 34:03 to 25:57 margin. Neither side turned the ball over in the game though the Buccaneers’ defense did record a safety while holding the Eagles without a third (zero for nine) or fourth (zero for two) down conversion in the game.
