The San Jose Sharks are on the road as they make the trip to take on the Chicago Blackhawks Tuesday night. San Jose was on the road in Buffalo Monday afternoon, suffering a 3-0 defeat in the front half of a back-to-back set. Chicago fell 3-1 at home to Dallas in their previous contest Saturday night. San Jose suffered their 14th loss in the last 15 games as they were unable to generate any offensive output on the road against Buffalo Monday afternoon. The Sharks enter this game 10-31-3 on the season and stood eighth in the Pacific Division, 39 points behind Vancouver for the top spot. They were 27 points behind Los Angeles for the final guaranteed playoff spot and 24 back of Edmonton for the second wild card spot. San Jose is 32nd in the league in goals for as they average 2.05 goals per contest. The Sharks are 32nd in goals against as they allow an average of 4.07 goals per contest. San Jose stands 20th in the league in success with the man advantage as they have cashed in on 18.5% of their power play chances this season. The Sharks are 32nd in penalty killing as they have successfully navigated 71.6% of their shorthanded situations on the year.

Against Buffalo, the Sharks hung around for a while but they were unable to come up with any goals, sending them to defeat. San Jose held an 8-7 edge in shots on goal in the opening period with neither side able to light the lamp, keeping things scoreless after 20 minutes. In the second period, the Sharks saw the shots even at 12 but they were outscored 2-0 to trail by that margin at the second intermission. The third period saw San Jose outshot by a 16-8 margin and they gave up the lone goal of the period to close things out.
