San Jose saw their win streak end at one as they were upended in the dying seconds on the road in Ottawa Saturday afternoon. The Sharks enter this game 10-30-3 on the season and stood eighth in the Pacific Division, 38 points behind Vancouver for the top spot. They were 25 points behind Los Angeles for the final guaranteed playoff spot and 24 back of Edmonton for the second wild card spot. San Jose is 32nd in the league in goals for as they average 2.05 goals per contest. The Sharks are 32nd in goals against as they allow an average of 4.07 goals per contest. San Jose stands 20th in the league in success with the man advantage as they have cashed in on 18.5% of their power play chances this season. The Sharks are 32nd in penalty killing as they have successfully navigated 71.6% of their shorthanded situations on the year.

Against Ottawa, San Jose battled but took the knockout punch in the closing seconds to end up with the regulation loss. The Sharks held a 9-8 edge in shots on goal in the opening period but trailed 2-1 on the scoreboard after 20 minutes of play. San Jose gave up the first two goals of the game to trail by a pair before Anthony Duclair got San Jose on the board with his eighth goal of the season at 12:35 off assists from Alexander Barabanov and Mario Ferraro. In the second period, San Jose was blistered to the tune of 22-4 in shots though both teams scored twice, leaving them down 4-3 at the second intermission. Marc-Edouard Vlasic evened the game with his first goal of the season at 3:53 off assists from Duclair and Mikael Granlund. Later in the period, Kevin Labanc gave the Sharks a 3-2 lead with his second goal of the year at 6:20 off assists from Ferraro and Mike Hoffman. They surrendered two unanswered goals to trail by one at the end of the stanza. In th e third period, San Jose was outshot 11-5 with both teams scoring once, leaving the Sharks on the wrong end of the scoreboard. Filip Zadina tied the game with his fifth of the year at 16:56 off assists from Tomas Hertl and Ferraro. The Sharks gave up the winning goal with five seconds left in regulation. Mackenzie Blackwood made 36 saves for San Jose, who were outshot 41-18, in the loss. Kaapo Kahkonen is slated to get the start in goal here.
