The Washington Capitals face the New York Rangers with both teams on opposite ends of the standings this season. The Capitals have a 20-14-6 record and with only three wins in their last 10 games, they are in fifth place in the Metropolitan Division. The Rangers have a 26-13-2 record which is the best in the Metropolitan Division but they have lost three games in a row. The Capitals are having a rough season with their offense struggling, scoring only 2.36 goals per game with only four goals in their last two games. Alexander Ovechkin, Dylan Strome, and Tom Wilson have scored 34 goals and 36 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has struggled. John Carlson and Rasmus Sandin have combined for 4.3 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to carry the puck into the offensive zone and easily find open shots on the net.
