A pair of teams from the MAAC that call the Empire State home lock up on the hardwood in western New York looking to earn a victory. The Siena Saints are on the road as they travel to face the Canisius Golden Griffins Friday night. Siena comes in off a 93-69 home thrashing by Fairfield in their previous contest last Friday, failing to cover the line as a three-point underdog. Canisius battled but fell 79-76 in overtime to Rider on the road Sunday, failing to cover the line as a one-point underdog. In the all-time series between the teams, the Saints own a 56-46 advantage but the Golden Griffins earned a 66-62 home win in the most recent matchup on January 15, 2023.

Siena was rolled by Fairfield in their previous contest last Friday at home, marking their seventh straight defeat in the process. The Saints dropped to 2-12 overall on the season and they stand 1-2 in MAAC play on the season as they try to earn a rare win here. Against Fairfield, Siena led by seven midway through the first half and by three with 5:49 remaining in the first half before things fell apart. The Saints gave up a 20-4 run over that 5:49 span to trail by 13 at the half and things went downhill from there. Siena was down as many as 30 in the second half en route to the loss. The Saints shot 45.6% from the field, including five of 18 from three-point range, and allowed the Stags to shoot 58.2% in the game. Giovanni Emerjuju led the Saints with 22 points in the loss.

On the season, the Saints are a brutal team on the offensive end as they are 358th in scoring offense with 60.2 points per game. Siena pulls down an average of 36.1 rebounds (201st) per game while dishing out 10.9 assists (335th) per contest on the year. The Saints are equally bad on the defensive end of the floor, ranking 328th in scoring defense by allowing 78.2 points per game. Sean Durugordon leads the team with 22.3 points plus 7.3 rebounds per contest but he has played only four games this season. Michael Eley (14.9 points, six boards), Giovanni Emerjuju (11.6 points, 6.1 rebounds) and Zek Tekin (10.3 points, 3.7 assists) are solid secondary scoring options. Michael Evbagharu, Killian Gribben, Bralyn Smith, Mason Courtney, Michael Ojo and Max Frazier are important rotation players for coach Carmen Maciariello. Siena shoots only 39.5% from the floor as a team on the year, which is above average. The Saints knoc k down an average of 5.1 three-pointers a night while shooting 26.4% from beyond the arc on the year. Siena is putrid at the free throw line, ranking 361st of the 362 Division I teams in the nation by hitting 58.7% at the charity stripe.
