After starting the year at 9-3 in non-conference action, the Hurricane opened up the AAC portion of their schedule with a 78-75 loss to 15th-ranked Memphis at home. Memphis led by 14 points at the half before the Hurricane mounted a comeback to tie the game with 33 second left. The comeback fell short but the Hurricane proved that they will be a force to be reckoned with this season. PJ Jaggerty led the way with 27 points while Carlous Williams added a season-high 16 points.

“I'm proud of our team for the number of times they could have said, 'Hey, this is not our night. This is a really good team and we're young and maybe we're not ready for this, yet.' But they just kept pushing, and they kept finding a way to give ourselves a chance. We tied the game there late and hats off to (Jahvon) Quinerly for making a great shot and winning the ballgame for them,” said Tulsa Head Coach Eric Konko l. “We have some things we absolutely need to work on, and that's part of this process. But I love coaching this group and I'm looking forward to practice tomorrow and trying to get ready for the next one.”

The Tulsa Hurricane hope to hit the East Coast and pick up a quality road win against the ECU Pirates on Sunday. The Hurricane are 112th in the country in scoring offense this season. They are, however, just 220th in the country in field goal shooting and 246th in 3-point shooting. Tulsa is 91st in defensive scoring this season. The Hurricane has been tough on opposing team's offenses, ranking 75th in opponent's shooting percentage and 31st in 3-point shooting. They are 139th in total rebounding per game this season but just 331st in the country in turnovers per game.
