The SMU Mustangs are powering into conference play with great momentum as they have won their last four games. They also covered the spread in all four games, winning three times as the favorite, but also pulling an upset against Florida State as 4.5-point underdogs. In their conference opener, SMU led Charlotte by eight, and the game never got much closer as they cruised to victory. The Mustangs were led by guard Zhuric Phelps with 13 points in the victory.

Phelps is the leading scorer for SMU at 14.7 PPG as a 6'5 junior guard. He is a strong guard who attacks the rim, and leads the team in free throw attempts. Phelps has scored double figures in all but one game this season, with a high of 24 against Arizona State. Chuck Harris is the other scoring guard, he adds 13.2 PPG and is the top shooter on the team with 29 made threes on the year on 42.6% shooting. Harris is a 6'4 senior guard, but is coming off a tough game against Charlotte where he only shot 2-9 and finished with four points. There is a sharp drop in scoring after their top two guards, next up is 6'8 senior forward Samuell Williamson with 8.7 PPG and 6.6 RPG. Keon Ambrose-Hylton is another interior threat, the 6'9 senior adds 8.6 PPG on the inside.

SMU is currently ranked 47th overall according to KenPom. They are better on the defense where they rank 24th in efficiency, while their offense only ranks 91st in efficiency. The Mustangs play slow on offense, they rank 225th in the nation in tempo.
