Houston Astros vs. Detroit Tigers Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 9-13-2022

The Houston Astros continue their three-game series in the Motor City as they battle the lowly Tigers on Tuesday night. The Astros reached 90 victories over the weekend and are comfortably in front in the AL West Division and look poised to get a first round bye in the AL Playoffs. The Tigers are in the midst of a terrible season and will hope to play spoiler against the front-running Astros. The pitching matchup for Tuesday night will be young right-hander Hunter Brown (1-0, 0.00) of the Astros taking on fellow righty Drew Hutchison (2-7, 4.08) of the Tigers. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40pm EST.

The Houston Astros biggest concerns over the last month of the season will be the team's health and to get their rotation set up for what they hope will be another long postseason run. On Sunday, the Astros won their 90th game, kept their 11-game lead in the AL West and maintained a four-game lead for the best record in the American League. The Astros look primed to have home field advantage for as long as they are in the American League playoffs and look primed to end with the second-best record, behind the Dodgers, in all of baseball by season's end. With that in mind, the Astros look to extend their dominance against a Tigers' team that is one of the worst in baseball. On Monday night, lefty Framber Valdez threw a complete-game shutout in a 7-0 Astros win. He struck out 8 and walked 1 in picking up his 15th win of the season.

Houston's comfortable lead in the AL West should serve the team well down the stretch as they consider roster spots and rotation possibilities. The Astros made key roster moves at the trade deadline by adding depth at catcher with Christian Vazquez and infielder/outfielder Trey Mancini. The team recently sent ace Justin Verlander to the IL for a calf injury and the move is probably as much for rest as for injury. Verlander is set to return next week. On Tuesday, rookie right-hander Hunter Brown will be making just his second-ever start on Tuesday vs. the Tigers. In his first start last week, Brown went six innings and allowed three hits without a run in a 1-0 win over the Rangers.
