Milwaukee Brewers vs. St. Louis Cardinals Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 9-13-2022

The Milwaukee Brewers (75-66, 58-83 RL, 67-63-11 O/U) collide with the St. Louis Cardinals (83-58, 79-62 RL, 68-68-5 O/U) in the first of a three-game divisional series on Tuesday evening. The Brewers will likely be going with their bullpen for this game. The Cardinals reply with veteran Jordan Montgomery. The Cardinals lead the season series 8-7.

The Brewers will be using the bullpen for this game. Usually, that means Brent Suter will see action. The veteran southpaw struggled in his previous appearance, squandering three runs in one inning against the Reds last weekend. He has recorded a 4.03 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP on the season. Suter has conceded four runs in 5.2 innings against the Cardinals this season. The Milwaukee bullpen has not been nearly as dominant as in past seasons, posting a mediocre 3.96 ERA and a solid 1.23 WHIP. Devin Williams is dominant and is sporting a 1.82 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP.

The Brewers are only two games out of the NL Wildcard but need an extended winning streak now.  They have been wildly inconsistent and are especially having trouble scoring on the road. The Brewers won two of three against the Reds last weekend.

Christian Yelich continues to have trouble hitting with any consistency but is finally heating up. The 30-year-old slugger is only hitting .280 this month and has 50 RBIs and a .755 OPS on the year. Yelich has struggled against the Cardinals, recording only two RBIs and a 478 OPS.

Milwaukee is scoring an average of 4.51 runs per game, ranking them 10th overall. The pitching staff is carrying a 3.91 team ERA, positioning them 14th in the big leagues.
