A pair of college programs from the Golden State take the floor in search of a non-conference victory as a member of the Big West battles with one from the Pac-12 ahead of the holiday break. The UC San Diego Tritons are on the road as they make the trip to face the Cal Golden Bears Wednesday night. UC San Diego rolled to an 83-52 road romp over Sacramento State in their previous contest Monday night, winning outright as a 1.5-point underdog. Cal was knocked off 88-78 on the road by Ole Miss in their previous contest Saturday, failing to cover the line as a 2.5-point underdog. In the all-time series between the schools, the Tritons own a 2-0 advantage, including a 64-62 victory at home in the most recent matchup on November 15, 2022.

UC San Diego had dropped five of their previous six before walloping Sacramento State on the road Monday night in their previous contest. The Tritons improved to 6-5 overall and have yet to take the floor in Big West action. Against Sacramento State, UC San Diego used an early 10-0 run to go in front 16-5 and ran away with the game from there. The Tritons built a commanding 50-22 lead at intermission and rolled the rest of the way. UC San Diego shot 42.6% from the floor, including 15 of 36 from three-point range, and forced 21 turnovers in the contest. Tyler McGhie led the Tritons with 22 points off the bench in the win.

On the year, the Tritons enter the game 128th in scoring offense as they put up an average of 77.4 points per game.
