The Minnesota Wild face the Pittsburgh Penguins with both teams looking to improve on rough seasons. The Wild have a 12-12-4 record and are near the bottom of the Central Division but have won three games in a row. The Penguins have a 13-13-3 record and with only four wins in their last 10 games, they have the second-worst record in the Metropolitan Division. The Wild have turned their season around despite their offense struggling, scoring only 2.96 goals per game. Kirill Kaprizov, Mats Zuccarello, and Joel Eriksson Ek have scored 28 goals and 45 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only five skaters have seven goals or more and opponents can limit the top-heavy offense as a result.

The defense has struggled all season, allowing 3.18 goals per game but they've turned a corner recently, allowing only three goals in their last three games. Brock Faber and Jared Spurgeon have combined for 2.5 defensive point shares and 74 blocked shots while Jacob Middleton, Zach Bogosian, and Jonathon Merrill have combined for 2.9 defensive point shares to add depth to the unit. In addition, goaltender Filip Gustavsson has stepped up with a .908 save percentage and a 2.84 goals-against average on 531 shots with 2.0 goals sa ved above average.
