The Florida Panthers are on the road as they travel northwest to take on the Edmonton Oilers Saturday night. Florida was in action on the road Thursday night as they traveled to face Vancouver, suffering a 4-0 defeat in the process. Edmonton was at home as they hosted the Lightning Thursday night in their previous contest, suffering a 7-4 loss to snap their eight-game win streak. Florida was on the road against Vancouver Thursday night and was blanked for the second straight contest. The Panthers dropped to 17-10-2 on the season and entered Friday tied for second in the Atlantic Division, four points behind the Bruins for the top spot in the standings. They were two points ahead of the Red Wings for the final guaranteed playoff spot in the division. Florida is tied for 23rd in the league in goals per game as they put up an average of 2.93 goals a night this season. The Panthers are 7th in the league in goals against as they allow an average of 2.62 goals per contest. Florida is 20th in power play success as they have cashed in on 17.6% of their chances with the man advantage this season. The Panthers are tied for 11th in the league in penalty killing as they successfully navigate 81.1% of their shorthanded situations on the year.

A gainst Vancouver Thursday night, Florida struggled to get anything going offensively as they were shut out for the second straight contest. The Panthers owned a 15-9 edge in shots on goal in the opening period but trailed 2-0 on the scoreboard after 20 minutes of play. In the second period, Florida was outshot by an 8-6 margin and they were outscored 2-0 to trail 4-0 at the second intermission. The third period saw the Panthers control play as they outshot Vancouver by a commanding 15-1 margin but neither side was able to light the lamp, sending them out of town with a defeat. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 13 of 17 shots before getting the hook after two periods of play. Anthony Stolarz stopped the only shot he faced in the third period for the Panthers, who held a 36-18 edge in shots, in the loss. Bobrovsky is slated to get the start in goal for this contest as well.
