The Minnesota Timberwolves were perhaps the hottest team in the NBA heading into New Orleans on Tuesday night. They had won nine out of ten games and owned the top record in the NBA at 17-4. Playing without leading scorer Anthony Edwards after he suffered a hip-pointer in the previous game, the Timberwolves were overwhelmed by the Pelicans in a 121-107 defeat to end a five-game winning streak. Karl-Anthony Towns led the Wolves with 17 points and 12 rebounds before fouling out late in the game. Mike Conley and Naz Reid both also had 17 points in a losing effort. Minnesota had beaten New Orleans in each of the first two matchups between the two teams.

The Wolves come in ranked 20th in the NBA in points per game. They are eighth in field goal percentage and 14th in 3-point shooting. The Wolves are more comfortable attacking the paint which explains their 21st ranking in 3-point field goals per game. Th ey are not as efficient offensively, ranked just 25th in assist-to-turnover ratio. Defensively, the Wolves have really stood out this season. They are ranked second in the NBA in points allowed per game. They are also 1st in defensive field goal percentage and third in 3-point defense.
