The Denver Nuggets are on the road as they make the cross-country trip to face the Atlanta Hawks Monday night. Denver was beaten 114-106 by Houston at home in their previous contest Wednesday night, losing outright as a nine-point favorite. Atlanta was dropped 125-114 by Philadelphia on the road Friday night, failing to cover the line as a nine-point underdog. In the all-time regular season series between the teams, the Hawks own a 52-45 advantage but it was the Nuggets earning a 128-108 home win in the most recent matchup on February 4, 2023.

Denver suffered their third straight loss as they were knocked off at home by Houston in their previous contest Wednesday night. The Nuggets enter Monday 14-9 on the season and stood third in the Northwest Division standings, three games behind the Timberwolves for the top spot. They held the fourth seed in the Western Conference playoff picture, 1.5 games ahead of the seventh-place Suns to hold a guaranteed playoff spot. Against Houston, Denver led by seven early, trailed by as many as nine in the first quarter and trailed by five after one. The Nuggets were down four at the half, got outscored 40-26 in the third quarter to trail by 18 after three and trailed by 25 with 8:26 to play. Denver got within six with 39.1 seconds to play but couldn’t get any closer as they took the loss. The Nuggets shot 42.2% from the field, including 10 of 28 from three-point range, and went 20 of 27 at the line in the game. Nikola Jokic led Denver with 23 points, 16 rebounds and five assists in the loss.

On the year, Denver is 14th in the league in scoring offense with an average of 113.6 points per game this season. The Nuggets are 15th in rebounding by collecting 44.1 boards per contest while they are 2nd by dishing out an average of 29.7 assists a night. Denver stands 8th in scoring defense as they give up an average of 110.6 points a night. Nikola Jokic is leading the team in scoring with 28.4 points, 13 rebounds and 9.6 assists a night this season. Jamal Murray (17.4 points, 6.7 assists), Aaron Gordon (12.5 points, 7.1 rebounds), Michael Porter Jr. (17.6 points, 8.1 rebounds) and Christian Braun (8.6 points) each are solid scoring options. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (11 points), Peyton Watson, Reggie Jackson (13.3 points), Zeke Nnaji and Julian Strawther are among the other players that coach Michael Malone calls on in the rotation. The Nugget s are 4th in the league in field goal percentage as they shoot 48.8% from the floor. Denver is 23rd as they connect on 11.5 three-pointers a night while the team is 15th as they knock down 36.4% of their attempts from beyond the arc.

Denver’s injury report is clean as the lone player on it is Vlatko Cancar, who underwent knee surgery back in August and has no timetable for return at this point.
