The Toronto Maple Leafs face the New York Islanders with both teams off to great starts to the season. The Maple Leafs have a 14-6-4 record and with two wins in a row, they have leaped into third place in the Atlantic Division. The Islanders have a 12-7-7 record and with seven wins in their last 10 games, they have the third-best record in the Metropolitan Division. Both teams look to remain near the top of the Eastern Conference and the upcoming game should be a great one as a result.

The Maple Leafs are having a great season with their offense stepping up, scoring 3.33 goals per game with eight goals in the last two games. William Nylander, Auston Matthews, and Mitch Marner have scored 40 goals and 44 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has been great as well. John Tavares, Calle Jarnkrok, and Max Domi have combined for 14 goals and 36 assists while defensemen Morgan Rielly and T.J. Brodie have added three goals and 20 assists from the point to put the offense over the top.

The offense has been great but the defense has struggled, allowing 3.17 goals per game. While Rielly and Brodie have combined for 3.0 defensive point shares, the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net with ease. In addition, goaltender Ilya Samsonov has struggled with a .886 save percentage and a 3.21 goals-against average on 273 sh ots with -4.7 goals saved above average.
