The New York Rangers face the Washington Capitals with both teams looking to build off of great seasons. The Rangers have an 18-5-1 record and with seven wins in their last 10 games, they have the top record in the Metropolitan Division. The Capitals have a 12-8-3 record but with only five wins in their last 10 games, they have slipped into fifth place in the Metropolitan Division. The Rangers are having a great season with their offense stepping up and scoring 3.38 goals per game with 12 goals in the last three games. Artemi Panarin, Chris Kreider, and Vincent Trocheck have scored 36 goals and 45 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has been great as well. Mika Zibanejad, Alexis Lafreniere, and Jimmy Vesey have combined for 19 goals and 25 assists while defensemen Adam Fox and Erik Gustafsson have added six goals and 25 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has stepped up but the defense has also been remarkable, allowing only 2.71 goals per game. Jacob Trouba and K'Andre Miller have combined for 3.8 defensive point shares and 114 blocked shots while Erik Gustafsson and Ryan Lindgren have combined for 2.4 defensive point shares to add depth to the unit. In addition, goaltender Igor Shesterkin is having a great season with a .911 save percentage and a 2.75 goals-saved above average on 449 shots with 3.4 goals saved above average.
