The Florida Gators arrive in North Carolina with a record of 4-2 as they get set for another challenge against a power five conference team. On Friday night, the Gators nearly came all the way back from a double-digit first-half deficit against 13th-ranked Baylor before falling 95-91 in the final of the NIT Shootout. Florida was led by guard Riley Kugel who had career highs in points, 25, and rebounds, 9. Kugel was also 4-of-6 from 3-point range and had three assists in the game. Forward Tyrese Samuel chipped in with 17 points and six rebounds and Zyon Pullin had a big night as well with 18 points and five assists.

“Like I told our guys in the locker room, we need to limit [3-point] attempts better, but once that ball is in the air there is only so much you can do about controlling the outcome – and 56 percent is going to be tough to overcome,” UF coach Todd Golden said. “We out-rebounded them, turned it over l ess than they did, shot a better percentage from 2 than they did, but they won the game because they shot the ball better from 3 than we did.”

The Gators have been scoring at an excellent clip thus far this season. They rank 16th in the country in points per game. They are 46th in field goal percentage and 177th in three-point field goal percentage. On the defensive end, the Gators are just 220th in points allowed per game. They are 130th in defensive field goal percentage and 284th in 3-point defense. The Gators have been excellent on the glass this season, ranking 15th in the country in rebounds per game. They are below average in turnovers, ranked 220th in turnovers per game.
