The Minnesota Timberwolves play host to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday night in a Western Conference showdown from the Target center. Both teams enter coming of of quick starts to the season, with only a single game separating these two in the standings. The Thunder hit the road with an 11-5 record, while Minnesota is just ahead of them, sitting at 12-4. Minnesota dominated the season series last year, winning four of five meetings, as they'll be looking to pick up right where they left off in this season's inaugural meeting. In a great slate of games, this remains one that fans will want to tune in for.

With the NBA season taking center stage, make sure to take a look at our NBA predictions to stay on top of the most valuable picks.

The Thunder are off to one of their better starts in recent memory and they have a strong road record to thank for that. At 6-1 away from home, that's one of the better marks in the NBA and is sure to continue to give this group confidence. At 11-5 overall, it's clear that the youth initiative is starting to take shape. They are coming of of a loss the last time out to the 76ers, which certainly isn't a bad loss by any means. Prior to that, they had put together six consecutive wins, including a sweep over Golden State and a road win against the Suns, which shows that their wins are coming against quality competition too. After struggling against Minnesota last season, they'll want to get off to a better start against their regional rivals in 2023.

The Thunder carry a pair of injuries into this one, though both have a chance at playing. Jalen Williams (hip) is probable for thi s one, which will be a nice addition back into the lineup, given his additions on both ends. Lindy Waters III (back) is questionable but given his struggles to make his mark in the rotation, his potential absence isn't likely to be as important.

Oklahoma City has taken huge strides forward on the offensive end, as they rank second in the league in field-goal percentage and are first in three-point percentage and free-throw percentage. Their ability to take advantage of their opportunities is evident, though Minnesota's defense will present a unique challenge. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (30.4 ppg) is putting together a potential MVP-type season but it has been the emergence of Chet Holmgren (18.1 ppg, 8 rpg) that has been most impressive. The second-year player has made his mark as a growing force in this league and against a front court that has quite a bit of length, he takes away some of the matchup issues others have faced. On the defensive end, the en ergy is there and considering they rank second in field-goal percentage defense as well, have the makings of finding success on both ends in this one.
