The LSU Tigers travel to Syracuse on Tuesday night to take on the Orange in a classic matchup of two of college basketball's most storied programs. LSU comes into this game with three straight wins including two out of three wins in the Charleston Classic. The Tigers returned home on Friday night and took a 75-63 win over North Florida at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Four Tigers scored in double figures in the win led by Will Baker. Baker finished the game with 18 points and eight rebounds. Jordan Wright added 15 points, Tyrell Ward had 14 points, and Mike Williams III added 11 points and a game-high six steals in the victory.
“I thought our guys really came out dialed on the defensive side of the ball. We have a lot of respect for North Florida and their three-point attack. They were out scoring their opponents by almost 24 points a game from behind the three-point line. I just loved our effort there on the defensive side about the first 27 minutes of the game. We were able to create some turnovers – I think Mike Williams had six steals and did a really nice job with putting pressure on the basketball. Big key was there in the first half. We won every media segment, but we had nine turnovers in the first 13 minutes of the game. We didn’t turn it over the rest of the half and we were able to build our lead. Lots of teachable moments, obviously, there in the last 10 minutes of the game. But, thrilled to win and excited for the opportunity we have on Tuesday at Syracuse.” said LSU head coach Matt McMahon after the game.
The Tigers come into this matchup with the 96th-ranked scoring offense in the country. The Tigers are just 282nd in field goal percentage but 71st in 3-point percentage. On the defensive end, the Tigers are 93rd in the country in scoring defense. They are 41st in field goal defense overall but just 262n d in 3-point defense. LSU is 215th in turnovers per game and 181st in rebounding per game.
