The Toronto Maple Leafs face the Pittsburgh Penguins with both teams heading in opposite directions early on this season. The Maple Leafs have a 10-5-2 record and with a 5-2-1 record in November, they have leaped to the top of the Atlantic Division. The Maple Leafs are having a great season with their offense leading the way, scoring 3.53 goals per game with 4.00 goals per game this month. Auston Matthews, William Nylander, and Mitch Marner have scored 31 goals and 37 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has stepped up as well. John Tavares, Matthew Knies, and Calle Jarnkrok have combined for 16 goals and 21 assists while defenseman Morgan Rielly has added three goals and 12 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has stepped up but the defense has struggled, allowing 3.41 goals per game. Morgan Rielly and T.J. Brodie have combined for 2.4 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net with ease. The bright spot has been the play of goaltender Joseph Woll who has a .909 save percentage and a 2.90 goals-against average on 308 shots w ith 2.1 goals saved above average.
