The Sabres have a 7-8-1 record and with two losses in a row, they have the second-worst in the Atlantic Division. The Jets have an 8-5-2 record and are in third place in the Central Division. The Sabres are having a rough season with their offense letting them down, scoring only 2.88 goals per game. Jeff Skinner, Tage Thompson, and Casey Mittelstadt have scored 16 goals and 22 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only four skaters have four goals or more and opposing defenses can limit the top-heavy offense as a result.
The offense has struggled but the defense has let the Sabres down, allowing 3.25 goals per game including nine goals in the last two games. Ower Power and Rasmus Dahlin have combined for 1.7 defensive point shares but the rest of the defensive unit struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net with ease. In addition, Devon Levi has struggled with a .881 save percentage and a 3.65 goals-against average on 201 shots with -4.5 goals saved above average.
