The Colorado Avalanche face the Seattle Kraken with both teams heading in opposite directions to begin the season. The Avalanche have an 8-5 record which is second-best in the Central Division but have lost back-to-back games. The Kraken have a 5-7-3 record and with three losses in their last four games, they have one of the worst records in the Pacific Division. The Avalanche are having a great season with their offense leading the way, scoring 3.23 goals per game with 11 goals in the last three games. Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen have scored 15 goals and 19 assists to lead the top line but the rest of the offense has stepped up as well. Artturi Lehkonen, Valeri Nichushkin, and Ryan Johansen have combined for 10 goals and 16 assists while defensemen Cale Makar and Devon Toews have added four goals and 17 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has been great but the defense has struggled, allowing 3.31 goals per game. While Makar and Toews have combined for 2.1 defensive point shares to lead the top pair, the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. In addition, goaltender Alexandar Georgiev has struggled with a .887 save percentage and a 3.29 goals-against average on 309 s hots with -5.1 goals saved above average.
