South Carolina vs. Arkansas Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 9-10-2022

The Arkansas Razorbacks play host to the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday afternoon from Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. In what will be the SEC opener for both teams, it is sure to be a wild environment, the experienced Gamecocks won't back down from that challenge. Despite being conference rivals, these two haven't met since all the way back in 2017 and South Carolina won each of the last three meetings, making it over a decade since the Razorbacks have won. Both teams look quite a bit different now than back then, though Arkansas will favorites in the rematch.

For the first time in a number of seasons, hopes are high for the Gamecocks to compete in the SEC and make a respectable bowl game. The transfer portal has certainly been kind to this group and after winning 34-14 against Georgia State last week, there's no doubt that there's been an influx of talent. Even with some of the struggles last season, South Carolina was still able to beat Auburn and Florida over the final month of the regular season, as well as UNC by 17 points in their bowl game. While hitting the road against an SEC contender in Arkansas will be tough, there's no doubt that this group can make things interesting.

Injuries are a slight concern for this group though, especially on the offensive end. Tight end Chad Terrell (knee) has already been ruled out for the season, while Corey Rucker remains doubtful at wide receiver.

South Carolina's offense did leave quite a bit to be desired after last week, even despite putting up over 30 points. They only went for 306 total yards and failed to reach 100 yards on the ground. The good news was no turnovers but having to improve in both facets of the offense could be tough too much to ask for this group as they hit the road. The x-factor remains Spencer Rattler. The once highly-touted Oklahoma quarterback, struggled last week, throwing two interceptions. While everyone waits to see if he can find his form from earlier in his career, the Gamecocks likely won't be able to play wait and see.

Defensively, the Gamecocks were gashed on the ground to the tune of allowing 200 yards. While Georgia State runs a run-heavy offense, Arkansas has the talent to find similar success on far fewer carries. It remains to be seen how the defense will stand up against a more potent airiel attack as well and unless they are able to force turnovers early, it could be a long day on the road.
