The Pittsburgh Penguins are on the road as they make the trip to face the Anaheim Ducks Tuesday night. Pittsburgh comes in off a 10-2 demolition of the league-worst Sharks on the road Saturday night. Anaheim stayed hot as they handed Vegas their first loss in regulation this season, prevailing 4-2 at home Sunday night in their previous contest. In the last 10 meetings between the teams, the Penguins own a 6-4 advantage but it was the Ducks earning a 4-3 road win in the first meeting this season on October 30.

Pittsburgh had dropped two straight and five of their previous six games as they buried San Jose on the road Saturday night. The Penguins entered Monday 4-6-0, leaving them in the basement in the Metropolitan Division, nine points behind the Rangers for the top spot. Pittsburgh is 8th in scoring as they average 3.60 goals per game on the season. The Penguins are below average in their own end, ranking 17th in goals against by allowing 3.10 goals a night. Pittsburgh stands 16th in the league in power play success as they convert 19.4% of their chances with the man advantage. The Penguins are tied for 14th in penalty killing as they successfully navigate 79.4% of their shorthanded situations.

Against San Jose, the Penguins took advantage of a team that has been beyond awful this season and cruised to a one-sided triumph. Pittsburgh was outshot 9-8 in the ope ning period of play but took a 2-0 lead to the dressing room at the first intermission. Reilly Smith opened the scoring with his fifth goal of the season at 1:30, on the power play, off assists from Erik Karlsson and Jake Guentzel. Smith made it a 2-0 game with his second goal of the night and sixth of the season at 12:55 off assists from Marcus Pettersson and Bryan Rust. In the second period, Pittsburgh held a 17-8 edge in shots and outscored San Jose 5-1 to take a 7-1 lead after 40 minutes of play. Guentzel made it a 3-0 game with his third goal of the season at 3:21 off assists from Rust and Pierre-Olivier Joseph. Vinnie Hinostroza extended to a 4-0 lead with his first goal of the season, unassisted, at 4:26 of the period. After San Jose made it a 4-1 game, Evgeni Malkin restored the four-goal margin with his sixth goal of the season at 9:12 off assists from Smith and Rickard Rakell. Only 15 seconds later, at 9:27, Kris Letang scored his first goal of the season off assists from Sidney Crosby and Rust to make it 6-1. Matt Nieto extended to a 7-1 margin with his first goal of the year at 11:53 off assists from Noel Acciari and Hinostroza.

The third period saw Pittsburgh with a 10-9 shot edge and they outscored San Jose 3-1 to put the game on ice. Rust made it an 8-1 game with his sixth goal of the year at the 49 second mark off assists from Guentzel and Karlsson. After the Sharks got one back, Malkin scored his second goal of the night and seventh of the season at 11:02, on the power play, with assists going to Smith and Rakell. Guentzel closed the scoring with his second of the night and fourth of the season, unassisted, at the 12:10 mark. Tristan Jarry made 24 saves for the Penguins, who held a 35-26 advantage in shots on goal, in the win. He is expected to be between the pipes again for this contest.
