Baylor Bears (1-0) vs. BYU Cougars (1-0)

Week 2 of the 2022 college football season brings the highly anticipated interconference clash from LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah, so we have prepared the best Bears vs. Cougars betting pick and odds for Saturday, September 10.

Baylor meets BYU for the second straight season, and the Bears beat the Cougars 38-24 as 5.5-point home favorites on October 16, 2021. BYU is a 3.5-point home fave this time around, while the totals are listed at 53.5 points.

The Baylor Bears dismantled the Albany Great Danes 69-10 to kick off their 2022 campaign. It was a one-way street, and the Bears easily covered a massive 42.5-point spread in front of the home fans. They racked up 573 total yards and 29 first downs while holding the Great Danes to 150 passing yards (5.0 per pass) and 87 rushing yards (2.9 per carry).

The Bears’ backfield had a field day, finishing with 259 yards on 41 totes (6.3 per rush). Freshman RB Richard Reese had nine carries for 62 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while sophomore QB Blake Shapen completed 17 of his 20 passing attempts for 214 yards and a couple of scores.

“One thing I appreciate about Blake is he’s understated and there’s no drama,” Baylor coach Dave Aranda said. “Most of the drama is on his head with his Mohawk. He’s Joe Cool. His practices translate into games, and I just love the way he goes about it.”

Baylor lost running backs Abram Smith and Trestan Ebner, who combined for 2759 yards from scrimmage in 2021. Wideout RJ Sneed transferred to Colorado, while WR Tyquan Thornton was drafted by the New England Patriots in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. This duo posted 1521 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2021, so the Bears will have a tall task to retain the Big 12 Conference title. Blake Shapen played five games last season, tallying 596 yards and five touchdowns on a 72.1 pass completion percentage.
