The Hawks didn't change their roster too much this offseason, letting John Collins go and adding Patty Mills from the Nets. They also extended Dejounte Murray, who averaged 20.5 points and 6.1 assists in his first season with the team last year. With Trae Young and Murray, Atlanta has a high-scoring, high-volume backcourt capable of scoring 80 points some nights and missing 50 shots on other nights. Atlanta fell short on the road at Charlotte on Wednesday and couldn't get it turned around on Friday versus New York. Young struggled in both games, shooting a combined 8-for-35 (22.8 FG%) from the floor. Murray was also inefficient versus the Hornets (3-for-14) and is 0-for-6 from three-point range this season. De'Andre Hunte r led Atlanta with 27 points, Clint Capela added 13 points and 13 rebounds, and Bogdan Bogdanovic scored 16, but coach Quin Snyder said the team “lacked execution in a lot of situations.”
Last season, the Hawks scored 118.4 points (3rd) and shot 48.3 percent (9th), including 35.2 percent from three-point range (21st). Its opponents averaged 118.1 points (26th) and hit 48.6 percent of their field goals (25th), including 35.6 percent of their three-point attempts (10th).
