Orlando Magic (1-0) vs. Portland Trail Blazers (0-1)

The opening week of the 2023-24 NBA season continues Friday, October 27, with the Orlando Magic squaring off against the Portland Trail Blazers in the cross-conference showdown at Moda Center in Portland, Oregon.

Last season, Orlando and Portland split their two-game series, and each team emerged victorious on the road. The visitors are slight 2.5-point favorites for this game, while the totals are listed at 224.0 points.

The Orlando Magic opened their 2023-24 campaign on a high note. They dismantled the Houston Rockets 116-86 as 4.5-point home favorites with a total of 220.0 points this past Wednesday. It was a one-point game midway through the third quarter when the Magic started to play aggressive defense, and the Rockets finished with 40.5% shooting from the field.

Orlando made 48.3% of its field goals despite going 9-for-34 from beyond the arc. The Magic dominated the Rockets on the glass, posting 17 offensive rebounds and outrebounding Houston 57-31. Cole Anthony led the way for the Magic with 20 points and eight rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench, while Franz Wagner notched 19 points and four boards.

&#x201 C;The win is going to validate us for about 30 minutes, and then we practice tomorrow and go on a tough road trip on the West Coast,” Anthony said. “We didn’t put in all this work to win one game.”

The Magic, who are coming off four straight losing seasons, used 15 players on the opening night. Paolo Banchero accounted for 12 points, five rebounds, and five assists in 28 minutes on the floor, while Jalen Suggs went just 3-for-12 from the field and finished with eight points and zero assists. The Magic handed out only 19 dishes while outscoring the Rockets 54-32 in the paint.
