The first week of the NBA season continues Friday night with an Eastern Conference battle between the Detroit Pistons (0-1, 1-0 ATS) travel to take on the Charlotte Hornets (1-0, 1-0 ATS). Both teams played their first game Wednesday night. Detroit lost their opener on the road in Miami, going down 103-102 but covered as 9.5-point underdogs. Charlotte won their home opener 116-110 over Atlanta, winning outright as 2.5-point dogs. Detroit won three out of four matchups last season. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 EST from the Spectrum Center in Charlotte.

Nobody does it better when it comes to NBA picks!

Cade Cunningham is beginning to show flashes that represent a player worthy of the number one pick in the draft. He is entering his third season with career averages of 18.0 PPG, 5.7 APG, and 5.6 RPG. Detroit would like to see his production rise, while leading the team to more victories. Cunningham took charge in the opener, he shot 16 more shots than any other Piston, and finished with 30 points and 9 assists. He was optimistic after the game saying, “The way that our team as a whole competed throughout, that's something we can build off of, for sure”.

Monty Williams is in his first season with the Detroit Pistons, and must navigate a roster full of young talent. Cunningham is the only obvious starter on the team. The team used the 5th overall pick on Jaden Ivey last season, but he came off the bench to shoot 1-7, only finishing with four points. Rookie Ausur Thompson had a tough opener as well, he started the game, but also shot 1-7 and finished with four points and had a plus/minus of -14 in his 27 minutes of action.

The Pistons got production from their young post players, Jalen Duran had 17 points and 14 rebounds, while Isaiah Stewart added 14 points and another 14 rebounds. Killian Hayes rounded out the starting lineup and he finished with 10 points and three assists. No reserve player scored double figures, as Ivey, Alec Burks and Marvin Bagley III got the most minutes off the bench.
