New York Rangers (4-2-0) vs. Edmonton Oilers (1-4-1)

The 2023-24 NHL season continues Thursday, October 26, with the New York Rangers facing off against the Edmonton Oilers in the cross-conference showdown at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, with the puck drop at 9:00 PM ET.

New York and Edmonton split their two-game set last season, and each team emerged victorious on the road. The Oilers are +109 home underdogs for Thursday’s clash, while the Rangers are -123 moneyline favorites with a total of 6.5 goals.

The New York Rangers opened a five-game road trip last Saturday, beating the Seattle Kraken 4-1 as -120 favorites. Artemi Panarin scored a couple of goals, and Filip Chytil made three dishes. Three days later, the Rangers outlasted the Calgary Flames 3-1, playing as -140 moneyline favorites.

Chytil had a couple of assists against the Flames, while Alexis Lafreniere, Chris Kader, and Erik Gustafsson scored a goal apiece. The Rangers overcame a first-period deficit while converting two of their five power-play opportunities, and Igor Shesterkin finished with 24 saves on the night.

“He was really good tonight,” New York coach Peter Laviolette said of Shesterkin. “We were defending too much at the end of the game and there were certainly saves that were important throughout the game, and especially in the third period there was a couple of real beauties.”

Shesterkin is now 3-2-0 with a 2.66 GAA and a .897 save percentage on the young season. He’s expected to patrol the crease Thursday in Edmonton, and the 27-year-old netminder is 1-1-0 with a 3.88 GAA and a .869 save percentage in two career appearances against the Oilers.
