The Syracuse Orange (4-3, 3-3-1 ATS, 1-6 O/U) meet with the Virginia Tech Hokies (3-4, 4-3 ATS, 4-3 O/U) in an ACC bout on Thursday evening, The Orange were clobbered by Florida State in their latest bout. The Hokies posted a home win against Wake Forest in their previous clash. These rivals last met in 2021 in a game Syracuse won by a 41-36 score.

The Syracuse Orange are hoping to avoid a fourth straight defeat. Syracuse was enjoying an outstanding opening month of the season. The squad was 4-0 after four games including victories against Purdue and Army but have not won since. They have lost to rivals Clemson, North Carolina, and most recently, were huge 19-point dogs in an ugly 41-3 road loss to #4 Florida State. The Orange have yet to cover the spread in their three conference games.

Garrett Shrader is having an inconsistent season. The senior QB has reached 245 passing yards three times this season but has struggled in conference play. Shrader has collected 1371 passing yards and an 8:5 TD to INT ratio on the year. Shrader is mobile and has added 358 rushing yards.

The Syracuse offense will run more than pass. Th ey have a dangerous #1 RB in LeQuint Allen. The sophomore RB has surpassed 100 rushing yards on three occasions and has recorded 511 rushing yards on a solid 4.8 yards per rush. The receiving core has two players with at least 300 yards. Umari Hatcher brought in 85 yards in the loss to North Carolina and has issued 346 receiving yards while Damien Alford has 319. The Syracuse offense has been the primary issue in conference play, scoring a total of only 24 points in their three ACC bouts.

The Orange defense was solid in the opening month of the season but has been exploited against ACC opponents, allowing at least 30 points in all three clashes including 40 against UNC. The group could not contain Florida State last time out, squandering 535 total yards. The pass defense is especially struggling, ranking 115th while the rush defense is at 45th.

Syracuse is averaging 28.7 points on the season, pegging them 70th. The defense is conceding an average of 22.1 points, placing them 45th.
