The Carolina Hurricanes face the Tampa Bay Lightning with both teams hovering around the .500 mark to begin this season. The Hurricanes have a 3-3 record and with consecutive losses, they have fallen to the middle of the Metropolitan Division. The Lightning have a 2-2-2 record and are coming off a tough overtime defeat. Both teams look to improve in their divisions and the Eastern Conference and the upcoming game should be a great one as a result.

The Hurricanes are off to a rocky start with their offense stepping up and scoring 4.50 goals per game. Seth Jarvis, Jesperi Kotkaniemi, and Martin Necas have scored nine goals and 11 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has stepped up as well. Stefan Noesen, Teuvo Teravainen, and Michael Bunting have combined for seven goals and nine assists while defensemen Jaccob Slavin and Brady Skjei have added four goals and nine assists from the point to put the offense over the top.

The offense has been great but the defense has been awful, allowing 5.00 goals per game with 13 goals in the last two games. Jaccob Slavin and Brady Skjei have led the top two pairings with 22 blocked shots but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net with ease. In addition, goaltender Frederik Andersen has struggled with a .855 save percentage and a 4 .14 goals-against average on 62 shots.
