The San Jose Sharks are on the road as they make the trip to face the Florida Panthers Tuesday night as part of the NHL’s Frozen Frenzy. San Jose was drubbed 5-1 on the road by Nashville Saturday night in their previous contest. Florida was dropped 5-3 at home by Vancouver in their most recent action Saturday night. In the last 10 meetings between the teams, the Panthers own a commanding 9-1 advantage and have claimed the last eight meetings. San Jose struggled on the road against Nashville in their previous contest Saturday night, keeping them winless on the season. The Sharks entered Monday 0-4-1 on the season and are in the basement of the Pacific Division standings, 11 points behind the Golden Knights for the top spot in the standings. San Jose is 31st in the league in goals for as they average 1.40 goals per contest. The Sharks are tied for 26th in goals against as they allow an average of 3.80 goals per contest. San Jose stands tied for 23rd in the league in success with the man advantage as they have cashed in on 11.8% of their power play chances this season. The Sharks are tied for 22nd in penalty killing as they have successfully navigated 73.7% of their shorthanded situations on the year.

Against Nashville, San Jose was outplayed in all facets of the game and that proved to be their u ndoing as they remained winless so far in 2023-24. The Sharks owned an 11-9 advantage in shots on goal in the opening period but they went to the dressing room down 1-0 after 20 minutes of play. San Jose held a 13-12 shot edge in the second period and was outscored 2-0 to trail 3-0 at the second intermission. The third period saw the Sharks outshot by a 13-8 margin and they were outscored 2-1 to put the game out of reach. After giving up a goal to trail 4-0, Tomas Hertl got the Sharks on the board midway through the stanza with his first goal of the season at 10:34 off assists from Mario Ferraro and Nikolai Knyzhov. San Jose gave up a goal later in the period to close the scoring and seal their defeat. Mackenzie Blackwood made 29 saves for the Sharks, who were outshot 34-32, in the contest. Kaapo Kahkonen is expected to be between the pipes for this contest.
