The Flames are off to a rough start with their offense letting them down, scoring only 2.80 goals per game with only five goals in the last two games. Elias Lindholm, Jonathan Huberdeau, and Andrew Mangiapane have scored six goals and eight assists but the rest of the offense has struggled. The hope is that Nazem Kadri can step up as he scored 24 goals and 32 assists last season but only has one assist so far.
The offense has been the primary reason for the Flames' struggles but the defense has also let them down, allowing 3.20 goals per game. MacKenzie Weegar and Noah Hanifin have led the top two pairings but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. In addition, goaltender Jacob Markstrom has struggled with a .905 save percentage and a 2.75 goals-against average on 116 shots.
