Pittsburgh Penguins (2-2-0) vs. St. Louis Blues (1-1-1)

The 2023-24 NHL season continues Saturday, October 21, with the Pittsburgh Penguins facing off against the St. Louis Blues in the cross-conference showdown at Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri, and the puck drop is set for 8:00 PM ET.

Pittsburgh and St. Louis lock horns for the first time this term, and the Penguins aim for their sixth consecutive victory over the Blues. The visitors are listed as -153 moneyline favorites, while the Blues are +136 home dogs with a total of 6.5 goals.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are coming off Wednesday’s 6-3 defeat at the Detroit Red Wings. After a couple of convincing wins at the Washington Capitals 4-0 and to the Calgary Flames 5-2, the Pens’ defense fell apart, and Tristan Jarry yielded four goals on 27 shots.

Detroit had a 4-1 lead at the end of the second period. Erik Karlsson and Bryan Rust cut the deficit in the third, but the Red Wings clinched a victory with a couple of empty-netters.

“We need to block shots more,” Pittsburgh center Evgeni Malkin said. “We need to play harder in front of the net because every forward tries to screen the goalie and play for rebounds.”
