The Dallas Stars are on the road as they make the trip to take on the Anaheim Ducks Thursday night. Dallas battled but fell 3-2 in a shootout on the road to Vegas in their previous game Tuesday night. Anaheim earned a 6-3 home win over Carolina in their previous contest Sunday night. Dallas hung tough in a defensive struggle with Vegas on the road Tuesday night but ended up falling in a shootout, though they earned a point in the standings. The Stars entered Wednesday 1-0-1 on the season and stood tied for fourth in the Central Division, three points behind the Avalanche for the top spot. Dallas stands 28th in the league in goals per game as they average 1.50 goals per contest on the year. The Stars stand tied for 5th in the league in goals against as they allow an average of 1.50 goals a night this season. Dallas is tied for 28th when it comes to success on the power play as they convert on 0% of their chances with the man advantage this season. The Stars are tied for 1st in penalty killing as they successfully navigate 100% of their shorthanded situations on the year.

Against Vegas, Dallas battled and earned one point in the standing s, though they couldn’t secure the second point as they fell in a shootout. The Stars held a 9-6 advantage in shots on goal in the opening period of play with neither side lighting the lamp, keeping things scoreless at the first intermission. In the second period, Dallas was outshot 12-9 with each team scoring once, leaving the game level at one after 40 minutes of play. Craig Smith opened the scoring with his first goal of the season at 5:52 off assists from Tyler Seguin and Thomas Harley. They gave up the tying goal later in the period. In the third period, Dallas was outshot 12-7 with each team scoring once to send the game to overtime even at two. Joe Pavelski gave the Stars a 2-1 lead with his first goal of the year at 2:50 off an assist from Roope Hintz. The Stars gave up the equalizer with 2:59 remaining in regulation. During overtime, the Stars were outshot 4-1 with neither team scoring, keeping the game even. In the shootout, Matt Duchene tallied in the second round but Vegas scored in each of the final two rounds to earn the win.
