Northwestern Wildcats (3-3) vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers (3-3)

Week 8 of the 2023 college football season is here, and the Northwestern Wildcats head to Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska, on Saturday afternoon to face off against the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the Big Ten Conference showdown.

We bring you the best Northwestern vs. Nebraska betting pick along with the latest odds update. The Cornhuskers, who aim for their third straight home win over the Wildcats, are 12-point favorites with a total of 41.0 points.

The Northwestern Wildcats (3-3; 2-4 ATS; 1-2 Conf.) are coming off a bye, hoping to stay on the winning path. Back in Week 6, the Wildcats barely outlasted the Howard Bison 23-20. Northwestern nearly blew a 16-point second-half lead and failed to cover a 23.5-point spread in front of the home fans. At least, the Wildcats bounced back from a heavy 41-13 defeat at the No. 6 Penn State Nittany Lions in Week 5.

Northwestern racked up just 312 total yards against the Bison, who rushed 36 times for 162 yards and added 169 yards through the air. Junior signal-caller Brendan Sullivan led the way for the Wildcats in his first start of the season, completing 13 of his 18 passing attempts for 131 yards and a couple of touchdowns. He also had 15 carries for 38 yards and a touchdown, while senior running back Cam Porter posted 18 totes for 78 yards.

“I'm going to prepare every week like I'm the starter,” Sullivan said. “That's the job of the backup: to prepare like you're the starter and then nothing changes. Ben did a really great job of being a really good teammate on the sidelines. He was my No. 1 supporter so give credit to him.”

Sullivan filled in for senior Ben Bryant, who suffered an upper-body injury in Week 5 and is questionable to play against Nebraska. Bryant has tossed for 926 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions so far this season, while Sullivan has added 192 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception through five appearances.

The Wildcat s, who score 22.0 points per game (tied-109th in the country), desperately need more from their ground game. Northwestern averages just 3.1 yards per carry and 103.0 rushing yards per game. On the other side of the ball, the Wildcats are yielding 27.3 points per contest (80th) on 189.7 passing yards (26th) and 172.3 rushing yards (108th).
