The Tampa Bay Lightning face the Buffalo Sabres with both teams looking to improve from rocky starts to the season. The Lightning won their first game but are coming off back-to-back losses including a brutal 5-2 defeat. The Sabres have lost their first two games of the season and head back home in must-win territory. The Lightning are off to a rough start despite their offense stepping up and scoring 3.67 goals per game. Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos have combined for four goals and four assists to lead the top line but the rest of the offense has stepped up as well. Brayden Point, Nick Paul, and Brandon Hagel have combined for four goals and five assists while defenseman Victor Hedman has added a goal and four assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has been great but the defense has been awful, allowing 4.67 goals per game and 11 goals in the last two games. Victor Hedman and Mikhail Sergachev have led the top two lines but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net with ease. In addition, goaltender Jonas Johansson has been awful with a .889 save percentage and a 4.09 goals-against average on 72 shots.
