It’s an interconference matchup on the ice as two teams that missed the postseason a year ago look to earn a win in the City of Brotherly Love. The Vancouver Canucks are on the road as they make the trip to face the Philadelphia Flyers Tuesday evening. Vancouver comes in off a 4-3 win road win over Edmonton Saturday night to sweep a home-and-home set with their Pacific Division rivals. Philadelphia was dropped 5-2 by Ottawa on the road Saturday afternoon in their previous contest. In the last 10 meetings, the Flyers own a 5-3-2 advantage though the Canucks earned a 6-2 home win in the most recent matchup on February 18.

Vancouver had a tougher time than their season-opening 8-1 romp over the Oilers at home but still managed to earn a road victory to sweep the home-and-home set against Edmonton. The Canucks improved to 2-0-0 on the season and stood second in the Pacific Division, two points behind Vegas for the top spot. Vancouver is tied for 1st in the season in goals per game as they put up an average of six goals per contest this season. The Canucks are tied for 6th in the league in goals against as they allow an average of two goals per game. Vancouver is 2nd in the league in power play success as they convert 44.4% of their chances with the man advantage on the season. The Canucks are 23rd in the league in penalty killing as they have successfully navigated only 72.7% of their shorthanded situations this season.

Against Edmonton, Vancouver had tougher sledding than th ey did at home but managed to emerge victorious nonetheless. In the opening period, the Canucks were outshot 8-7 but they skated to the dressing room with a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes of action. After giving up the opening goal just 42 seconds into the game, Andrei Kuzmenko tied the game with his first goal of the season, on the power play, at 9:25 off assists from Quinn Hughes and Elias Pettersson. Later in the period, Nils Hoglander gave Vancouver a 2-1 lead with his first of the year at 17:51 off assists from Brock Boeser and Tyler Myers. In the second period, the Canucks were outshot by an 18-6 margin and outscored 2-1 to leave the game even at three after 40 minutes of play. After Edmonton tied the game, Jack Studnicka gave Vancouver a 3-2 lead with his first goal of the year at 2:36 off an assist from Petterson. The Canucks gave up the equalizer on the power play midway through the stanza. In the third period, Vancouver was outshot 14-3 but scored the lone goal of the period to earn the win. Sam Lafferty scored his first of the year at 2:56 off an assist from Hoglander to give the Canucks a 4-3 lead that stood up the rest of the way. Casey DeSmith made 37 saves for the Canucks, who were outshot 40-16, in the victory. Thatcher Demko is expected to get the start in goal for this contest for Vancouver.
