Chicago Blackhawks (1-2-0) vs. Toronto Maple Leafs (2-0-0)

Week 2 of the 2023-24 NHL season starts Monday, October 16, with the Chicago Blackhawks facing off against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the interconference showdown at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, and the puck drop is set for 7:00 PM ET.

The Maple Leafs open as huge -325 moneyline favorites with a total of 6.5 goals. Toronto and Chicago split a two-game set in 2022-23, and each team emerged victorious on the home ice.

After a surprising 4-2 road victory against the Pittsburgh Penguins on the opening night of the season, the Chicago Blackhawks have dropped two straight contests at the Boston Bruins 3-1 and the Montreal Canadians 3-2. Last Saturday, the Blackhawks scored two unanswered goals in the third period to cut Montreal’s lead but couldn’t force overtime.

The Canadians outshot the Blackhawks 36-30. Chicago went 0-for-7 with the man advantage and committed 12 giveaways. Tyler Johnson scored his first two goals of the season, while Petr Mrazek yielded three goals on 36 shots (.917 save percentage).

Petr Mrazek is expected to guard the cage Monday in Toronto. The 31-year-old netminder was terrific in his season debut, tu rning 39 of 41 shots aside in that 4-2 win at Pittsburgh. Last season, Mrazek went 10-22-3 with a 3.66 GAA and a .894 save percentage. Arvid Soderblom patrolled the crease in a 3-1 loss at Boston this past Wednesday and gave up two goals on 30 shots.
