The Nashville Predators face the Tampa Bay Lightning to kick off the 2023-24 NHL season. The Predators are looking to rebound from a 42-32-8 season where they finished in fifth place in the Central Division and missed the playoffs. The Lightning went 46-30-6 last season to make the playoffs but head into this season without starting goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy, who will miss multiple weeks with an injury. The Predators hope to make noise in the Central Division while the Lightning look to remain competitive to start the year and the upcoming game should be a good one as a result.

The Predators missed the playoffs last season with their offense letting them down, scoring only 2.72 goals per game. Roman Josi scored 18 goals and 41 assists while Filip Forsberg and Thomas Novak added 36 goals and 49 assists but the rest of the offense struggled. The hope is that offseason additions Ryan O'Reilly and Gustav Nyquist can step up and add a scoring presence to an otherwise hapless forward unit.

The offense hopes to rebound but the defense looks to build off a strong season where they allowed only 2.88 goals per game. Roman Josi and Ryan McDonagh led the unit with 9.3 defensive point shares and 311 blocked shots but the rest of the unit stepped up as well with Dante Fabbro, Alexandre Carrier, and Jeremy Lauzon rounding out the unit. Additionally, goaltender Juuse Saros looks to build off a remarkable season where he had a .919 save percentage and a 2.69 goals-against average on 20 99 shots.
