After nearly a four-month layoff, the puck drops on the 2023-24 NHL season with a battle between the latest generational talent and a previous one on the ice in the Steel City. The Chicago Blackhawks are on the road as they travel to take on the Pittsburgh Penguins Tuesday night. Chicago finished the 2022-23 season last in the Central Division with a 26-49-7 record as they missed the postseason for the third straight season and fifth in the last six years. Pittsburgh ended the 2022-23 season 40-31-11 to finish fifth in the Metropolitan Division: they missed the playoffs for the first time since 2005-06. In the last 10 meetings, the Blackhawks own a 7-2-1 advantage, including a 5-2 road win in the most recent meeting on April 11.

We’ve hit more than 40 parlays in the last few months, totaling over $45,708 in that span. That includes nine wins since Augus t 28 totaling $11,904! Don't miss out on my Expert Picks and another big payday! Click here to get a month of my parlays for only $50 (normally $100)!

Chicago struggled last season in coach Luke Richardson’s first season behind the bench as they finished in the basement of the Central Division standings. The Blackhawks had the league’s third-worst record but won the draft lottery, which enabled them to select Connor Bedard with the first overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft. Chicago tried to add some veteran talent to support Bedard as they acquired Nick Foligno and Taylor Hall from the Bruins in a trade. They also added Corey Perry from the Lightning for a seventh-round selection to give them another veteran to provide leadership, while inking Ryan Donato away from the Kraken and re-signing Andreas Athanasiou to a two-year deal.

Chicago finished the 2022-23 season last in the league in scoring offense as they put up an average of just 2.46 goals per game. The Blackhawks were 28th in the league defensively as they gave up an average of 3.65 goals per game on the year, so there is definite room for improvement on both ends of the ice. Chicago struggled with the man advantage last season, ranking 28th in the league in power play success by cashing in on 16.4% of their opportunities. The Blackhawks were below average when it came to the penalty killing department as they finished 22nd by successfully navigating 76.2% of their shorthanded situations a season ago. Petr Mrazek, who played in 39 games, starting 38, last season for Chicago, is expected to get the start in goal for the Blackhawks here. He was 10-22-3 with a 3.66 GAA and a .894 save percentage on the year.
