The Cincinnati Bearcats fell to 2-2 on Saturday in a hard-fought 20-6 loss to the 16th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners at home in their inaugural Big 12 contest. The Bearcats were in the game throughout but were unable to penetrate the stout Sooners' defense.

“I'm disappointed obviously in the score, but I'm proud of the way our guys fought. I'm looking at the field and seeing we're a little bit undermanned as far as the numbers go, depth issues, and our guys are battling. They're coming off, they’ve got shoulder, leg (injuries) everything and they don't want to come off the field. They want to continue to play and continue to fight. I told them that’s what championship teams are made of. That's what we have to be. This outcome is not what we wanted, but we're striving toward that, we're striving toward championships. If you've got a team full of guys that will fight, you're going to get there. We're going to continue to work hard, we're going to keep striving to get there. I'm very proud of our defense today, they held a high-powered offense to 20 points and didn’t get a lot of help from our offense today.” Cincinnati head coach Scott Satterfield said after the loss.

The Bearcats offense could not finish off drives against the Sooners, held to just two field goals on the afternoon. They finished with 376 yards of total offense but were just 3-of-10 on third down conversions. Quarterback Emory Jones was 22-of-41 for 235 yards without a touchdown but did throw two interceptions. He was also sacked twice and gained 58 yards on 15 carries for a paltry 2.8 yards per carry. Overall, the Bearcats ran the ball 37 times for 141 yards for a 3.8 yards per carry average. The six points scored represent the lowest output for the Bearacts this season.

On the defensive end, the Bearcats did a solid job in containing the Sooners' explosive offense. They held the Sooners to 425 yards of total offense and that included having to contend with two short fields due to turnovers. The Bearcats had six tackles for loss including two sacks. They did recover one fumble but did not have an interception in the game. Dorian Jones led the way with 13 tackles including a sack in the game.

Cincinnati has shown a solid mix of good offense and quality defense through the first four games despite having just a 2-2 record. The Bearcats are 35th in the nation in total offense thus far. They are 14th on the ground thanks mainly to the dual threat of quarterback Jones and are 84th through the air. Defensively, the Bearcats are ranked 46th in the country. They have been excellent against the run, ranking 30th in the nation. They are 77th against the pass but showed out well against the Sooners' formidable passing attack this past Saturday. < /p>

Cincinnati has struggled with turnovers, as evidenced in Saturday's loss to the Sooners. They are ranked 84th in the nation in turnover differential through four games. The Bearcats offense needs to protect the ball better in order to make their RPO game work. The team is also 79th in penalties this season. That number is not entirely surprising given the fact that the team is adjusting to a new coaching staff.

Injury Report: Cincinnati has no injuries to report.
