The Clemson Tigers and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets face off on Monday in a Week 1 college football showdown at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Clemson has won the last seven games against Georgia Tech.
Clemson didn’t live up to the expectations last season, but they did finish the season strong, and they hope they are going to be better this season. There were all kinds of expectations surrounding DJ Uiagaleilei heading into last season, but he didn’t live up to those expectations and will need to be much better this season. Behind him is Cade Klubnik, who could see some playing time if there are struggles. There will be a lot of pressure on the running game this season and that starts with Will Shipley who rushed for 739 yards and 11 touchdowns last season. The Tigers hope the defense is s strength this season. But they will have to replace their top two tacklers.
On the other side of this matchup is the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, who hope that they can also be better this year. Jeff Sims will be back under center, and he has been very inconsistent during his career. Sim's arm is fine, but his real strength is with his legs. Top wide receiver Malachi Carter is back after putting up almost 500 yards last season. On defense last season, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets had some major issues slowing down their opponents. The linebacker should be the strength of this team, and will need to be good here.
