The Clemson Tigers play host to the Florida State Seminoles in an ACC showdown on Saturday afternoon from memorial Stadium. The Seminoles hit the road for the second-straight week ranked in the top ten and looking to continue to make a statement in the ACC and national landscape. Clemson started the season with an unfamiliar loss and even after two straight wins, have massive questions. Clemson has dominated this series of late, having won seven in a row, not losing since 2014 to Florida State. It'll take a massive effort to grab the win in this one for the Tigers but this should still be the best game of the weekend in the ACC.
Over the years, this has become one of the more interesting rivalries in college football, with both teams showing signs of prolonged dominance. The Seminoles haven't won in this matchup since 2014, marking seven straight losses to their rivals from South Carolina, though this represents a great chance to flip the script. Florida State set the tone that they'll need to be taken seriously after taking down LSU in a blowout. Last week saw them struggle but in a may, it was good to see them go on the road and have to navigate some uncertainty and problems early. Going on the road against Clemson will be a different challenge in itself and they'll need to start much faster than they did in Boston last weekend. If the Seminoles can grab the road win in this one, they will start to have serious thoughts towards the CFP come the end of the season. Momentum and confidence aren't on their side when it comes to this series but they ha ve the talent and experience to flip the script in this one.
Florida State has a few injuries that they continue to navigate as they head into what might be the biggest game of their season. A pair of wide receivers appear on the latest edition of the report, though neither has a catch on the season. The more pressing concern is continuing to find success on the defensive line, especially after Darrell Jackson Jr. was ruled ineligible in August.
On the offensive side, it isn't fair to saw that Florida State has turned heads this year, as while the LSU success came on national television, they don't rank in the top 10 in any offensive category. One key is that FSU takes care of the ball, with Jordan Travis having tossed eight touchdowns as compared to only one interception. Keon Coleman has been a mismatch nightmare, adding four touchdowns and looking like one of the best receivers in the country in week one. If that connection can keep it going, it'll spell trouble for Clemson, though the consistency of Trey Benson at running back will give them the ability to control the clock.
On the defensive side of things, there are actually some serious concerns if the Seminoles want to get to where they want to be at the end of the season. They rank outside the top 100 in yards allowed per game, along with have a passing defense that might give Clemson confidence. Tatum Bethune (17 tackles) leads the way, while a linebacker represents three of the top four spots on the team when it comes to tacklers. The secondary does have three interceptions but a wide receiver room like Clemson's is yet to be seen this season and could cause issues, especially if the pass rush is off.
