It’s a non-conference tilt as a Group of Five program tangles with a Power Five one in the Land of Lincoln. The Florida Atlantic Owls of the AAC make the trip to take on the Illinois Fighting Illini of the Big Ten as both teams try to reach the .500 mark on the season Saturday afternoon. Florida Atlantic was clobbered 48-14 on the road by Clemson last Saturday, failing to cover the line as a 24.5-point underdog, in their previous contest. Illinois fell 30-13 at home to #7 Penn State last Saturday and failed to cover as a 14-point underdog in that outing. This marks the first time that the programs have met on the gridiron as FBS opponents.

Florida Atlantic was clobbered by Clemson on the road last week for their second straight defeat after opening the year with a win over FCS program Monmouth. The Owls enter this game 1-2 on the season and hope to even their record with a road win here. Against Clemson, Florida Atlantic trailed 20-0 after one quarter and 34-0 at the half: you could turn the lights out at that point on them. The Owls didn’t get on the board until 12:07 remained in the contest with the game well out of reach. Florida Atlantic was outgained 367-293 in total offense and turned the ball over four times while forcing just one takeaway in the contest. Those numbers overshadowed that each team had 20 first downs while the Owls won the time of possession by a 34:07 to 25:53 margin.
