It’s a non-conference tilt on the gridiron as a member of the ACC makes the trip to the Mountaineer State to take on a program from the Sun Belt. The Virginia Tech Hokies are on the road as they make the short trip to take on the Marshall Thundering Herd Saturday afternoon. Virginia Tech was knocked off 35-16 on the road by Rutgers in their previous contest last Saturday, failing to cover the line as a 6.5-point underdog. Marshall had a bye week last week: they trounced East Carolina 31-13 on the road in their previous contest on September 9, covering the line as a three-point favorite. In the all-time series between the teams, the Hokies own an 11-2 advantage. That includes wins in each of the six meetings with both teams as FBS programs: Virginia Tech prevailed 41-20 at home in the most recent meeting on December 1, 2018.

We’ve hit more than 35 parlays in the last few months, totaling over $38,077 in that span. That includes 17 wins since the start of July totaling $17,837! Don't miss out on another big payday! Click here to get a month of my parlays for only $50 (normally $100)!

Virginia Tech dropped their second straight game after opening the year with a win as they were drubbed soundly by Rutgers on the road last week. The Hokies enter this game 1-2 on the season and hope to even their record ahead of the start of ACC play next week. Against Rutgers, Virginia Tech trailed 7-0 after the opening quarter and 21-3 at the half before attempting to rally. The Hokies climbed within 21-16 with 14:18 to play in the game but couldn’t slow down Kyle Monangai, who ran for three scores for Rutgers. Two of those came in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach. Virginia Tech held a narrow 319-302 edge in total offense, picked up 18 first downs while allowing 14 and won time of possession by a 33:44 to 26:16 margin only to fall short. The Hokies committed the game’s only two turnovers in the contest.

On the season, the Hokies are 66th in the nation in pa ssing offense as they average 241.3 yards per game through the air. Virginia Tech is 125th in rushing offense as they pick up only 83 yards per game on the ground on the year. The Hokies are 103rd in the FBS in scoring offense by averaging 23 points per game and stand 85th in scoring defense as they allow 25.3 points per contest. Grant Wells is 33 of 62 passing for 494 yards with five touchdowns and two interceptions on the season. He adds three yards and a score on the ground. Kyron Drones is 22 of 40 passing for 230 yards with one touchdown and one interception while ranking second on the team with 89 rushing yards this season. Bhayshul Tuten leads the team on the ground with 38 carries for 104 yards and a score. Malachi Thomas (23 carries, 52 yards) is the second back in the system for Virginia Tech. Jaylin Lane (123 yards, two TD) and tight end Dae’Quan Wright (112 yards) each have nine catches to lead the team. Da’Quan Felton (seve n receptions, 118 yards, TD), Stephen Gosnell (six grabs, 101 yards), Ali Jennings (five catches, 72 yards, two TD) and Da’Wain Lofton (five receptions, 46 yards) are other targets in the passing game. John Love has hit all seven extra point attempts and four of five field goal attempts with a long of 41 this season.

Wells (leg) missed last week’s game against Rutgers and is questionable for this one. In addition, Lane (hamstring) and Jennings (ankle) missed the contest as well. Their statuses are murky at this point and given that the team is averaging only 2.4 yards per carry on the ground, the Hokies need as many targets in the passing game as possible.
